Jurgen Klopp's nurturing instinct is saving grace for Loris Karius

While the memories of one night in Kiev still haunt thousands of Liverpool fans, the mistakes will have once again become a reality for Loris Karius.

A duo of mistakes against Real Madrid in the Champions League Final were presumed to be the end for the Liverpool no.1 and a surprise return in pre season may have only made matters worse - but not in the eyes of Jurgen Klopp.

As The Reds embark upon several fixtures before their Premier League campaign kicks off mid August, their latest match up saw them travel across the Mersey to Birkenhead to battle Tranmere Rovers.

Klopp's men were 3-0 up before half-time but a mistake from Karius allowed The Super White Army to claw their way back into the game.

A free-kick from Ollie Norburn was spilled by the goalkeeper into the path of new loan signing Jonny Smith as Micky Mellon's men looked to revive game that looked dead just moments earlier.

While the mistake was not the start to the 2018/19 campaign that the German shot stopper was hoping for, he can take some solace into the fact that Klopp's nurturing instinct has saw him rescue players' career before.

Dejan Lovren is one who has benefitted greatly from his managers trust and while the introduction of £75m partner Virgil Van Dijk was a great help for the Croatian, the singularity of the goalkeeping position makes it harder to improve his position.

Alberto Moreno was a man many thought had played his last game for The Redmen in the 2016 Europa League Final against Sevilla when two errors against his former club allowed the Spanish outfit to see out the game comfortably.

Despite calls for the fullback to leave Merseyside, he began the next campaign as first choice left-back until James Milner was tasked with manning the unfamiliar position until a replacement could be found.

Moreno has been handed a second chance at forging a career at Liverpool, despite appearing sporadically, and still remains second choice behind Andrew Robertson, who also took his time to convince Klopp of his talents.

As of yet, the boss has never purchased a first-choice goalkeeper and remains keen on providing Karius with a clean slate and a chance to prove himself; while the mistakes of pre season will not be a plus in his favour, they will not be a cross either.
